My in-laws were here last week & as usual they came bearing gifts.
They gave Jake a remote-controlled robot.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a human being so utterly excited & happy.
It talks! It walks! It dances! It shoots things at Mummy & Daddy & Nanny & Papa & Ellie & EVERYTHING!
Ellie got a Barbie with detachable & movable butterfly wings, which she loved. She was scared of the robot at first & I had to keep her (& Barbie – where we figured out how to work her wings) ‘safe’ in the next room for a while. She soon joined in the fun though, & before long was jumping around the room singing “Robot rampage!”.
Soon after she was even holding Barbie in front of the robot while it fired discs at her head!
Poor Barbie! I’m sure they’ll patch things up…
Is there ever a greater joy for a little boy than using a remote control to get his robot to shoot coloured discs at his Grandad? I don’t think so.
I got some fantastic videos of the action, but the rest of the family haven’t embraced this ‘sharing on the interwebs’ thing as much as yours truly – despite this blog being the Mummy’s idea! – so unfortunately I can’t post them here.
Even in the midst of all the excitement & fun Jake still managed to show his deeper, thoughtful side:
“Can I keep this forever?” he asked
“Yes of course; it’s yours”
“When I’m bigger I want to give this to my children. It can be for their Christmas”.
(“HE’S 3! Where does he get this stuff from?!” my brain is screaming.)
The room went quiet. Even the noisy robot had the good sense to shut up.
