Children given the chance to try a new activity free for a year

Children across the UK from all walks of life, are being given an equal opportunity to take part in a quality-checked activity free of charge for a year via Sponsored Child 2016, a charitable initiative created by KalliKids.com.

Designed to encourage children of all ages on the importance of developing personal interests and engaging in new activities, the annual sponsorship scheme gives youngsters the chance to try new things and learn new skills in anything from swimming and playing the piano, to dance, tennis, mathematics and much more.

Ambassador and former British number one national tennis champion, Julie Pullin, is also supporting the initiative, “All children regardless of circumstance, economic or social status deserve the opportunity to learn new skills. Tennis gave me all sorts of skills from confidence and social skills to wanting to succeed, dealing with adversity, being respectful to others, conflict resolution, positivity and tenacity, as well as some amazing experiences”, she said.

Triumph over tragedy for Sponsored Child Sophie…

In 2015, 25-year-old Kayleigh Osborne applied for a place with Sponsored Child for her 4-week-old daughter, Sophie, to be sponsored with swim school, after her husband, Dan, was tragically killed in a car accident shortly after their baby was born.

Kayleigh said: “I saw Puddle Ducks swimming club had a taster trial which I went to and loved, but couldn’t afford to commit to the lessons. Someone suggested I apply for a place through the KalliKids Sponsored Child scheme. It went from there. It was an amazing opportunity for me and I was so pleased she was picked.

“Sophie started learning to swim in April 2015. As well as it being an invaluable skill, it has helped me to overcome hurdles and has been essential in helping us to bond. In the water she relies on me solely. It gives us time to be together, focused on something positive and not our grief.  Now I wouldn’t be without Sophie for anything.”

Karen Bach, founder of KalliKids.com spoke about the scheme, “Since we launched the scheme two years ago we’ve helped so many children across the country like Sophie, to try out fun, new activities that will aid their physical and social development and help them to build greater confidence as they grow.  I would urge parents to take a look at the many sponsorships on offer, it is free and easy to apply online and if successful, free to take part.”

The scheme is open to all children across the UK and selected children are motivated and enthusiastic with a positive attitude towards learning and are able to commit to attending the full 12-month activity schedule.
