So…I’ve bought a treadmill.
Ellie, ever observant, noticed this – probably because Jake was standing on it at the time – and asked me “Daddy, why have you got that – ” Me: “treadmill?” “yes: ‘treadmill’?”
I actually have this slightly mad idea of using it as I play my favourite Xbox game, Skyrim, so that I walk as my character does, run when he does, & sit down in the Inn and drink ale as – well, actually I probably do enough of that already, & that’s probably why I need the thing in the first place…
I was explaining to her what a treadmill does and why I need it. I believe the words “big fat belly” may have been used, again. Possibly.
Her response took me by surprise.
“But daddy, it doesn’t matter what you look like, it matters that you’re kind”.
Wise words for a 5-year-old, and definitely a Magic Moment!
Although I do need to lose weight (as well?) 🙂

Who remembers space hoppers?! (It’s OK; you don’t have to admit it if you don’t want to.)
The good news for those of us who do – whether we’ll admit it or not – is that they seem to be making a comeback!
And for those who don’t – read on! (Hint: they’re great.)
I was delighted to receive from the fine people at confused.com not 1 but 2 great space hoppers – complete with natty pumps – as part of their #Jumponit campaign.
Jake and Ellie were very excited about this, and also were determined, as ever, to do as much as they could themselves.
So, first step: Pump it up!
It was fun! but then we had a bit of a surprise:
Even so, we were pumped and ready to go, so there was nothing else for it but to head out & test-drive our new bouncy toys!
Fair warning: some of this was filmed by a 5-year-old boy. He did his best…)
I love how Jake tried to make his hopper smaller by trying to let some air out! And I’d forgotten just how much fun a good bounce in a space-hopper is!
Also: I’d like to point out, please, that there was a storm here the night before. My garden is messier than usual, honest…
As you can see we had a lot of fun, thanks to confused.com: Jump on it!
They’ve been in good form recently! Must be something to do with this ‘turning 4’ thing.
Jake & I were having scooter races in the garden; Ellie would normally join in but she was trying to get her ‘baby’ (dolly) asleep in the swing.
He’s fast, & was winning most of the time. Have you tried cornering in 1 of those things? Not easy!
The times I was winning were when I had a bit of a ‘head start’. Hey, it’s not my fault if he’s too slow off the mark!
Even then though I was out of luck: he’d shout “I’m pausing the game! I’m pausing the game!”. That meant I had to stop.
That Temple Run has a lot to answer for…
I still don’t know how that happened; it doesn’t seem so long ago that they were cute, gurgling, helpless little babies.
And yet it seems a lifetime ago.
But they’re 4.
Their journey into childhood, on life’s great adventure, continues.
Well, we’ve had an active, busy time over the last week’s half-term break!
That’s partly why I’ve been inactive here & on twitter: busy or out & about during the day, tired by night! I’ve become very good at falling asleep on the sofa in front of TV.
We’ve been out to the country park, soft play, fun farm. playground, gym & swimming pool, as well their usual Saturday morning dance class and just mucking about at home.
Friday though was probably the highlight: a trip out to Folly Farm – an hour & half’s drive, but worth it! We tried to pick the driest & least cold day so they could enjoy some outdoor as well as indoor fun, but the weather again let us down.
Because of that we headed straight for the barn where, after milking the plastic cows, Ellie somewhat nervously said hello to the kids. Continue reading “Graduation?”
What a strange day it was yesterday!
For the first time in months, a) it wasn’t raining, b) there wasn’t much wind, c) it wasn’t too cold, & d) there was that strange stuff about that I remember referring to as “Sunshine”!
We had a ton of things to do at home but we knew that the weather wasn’t supposed to last so we made the most of it & headed out for the some Fun in the Sun!

For the first 2 years of your lives we all lived together in our big house in the Midlands. The “big old house”, with the big old garden.
You don’t remember it. I do.
I remember how I was your full-time, stay-at-home Daddy. For your first year with Mummy, and for your second year by myself when Mummy went back to work, with reduced hours.
I remember it all so well. You don’t.

Flashback Friday: perfect for those posts that you meant to write at the time but just didn’t manage to!
I have rather a lot of those…
Back in August we had a great day out at a ‘Dinosaur Park’. It’s actually part of Wales’ National Showcaves Centre & what I didn’t have time to post about then was our actually walking through the caves there as well.
They’re quite something!
